Alexander James Thomas is an Indonesian-born artist, based in London. Thomas works primarily with photography, but finds fulfillment in other forms of art, including, but not limited to, sclupture, needlework, ceramics, and illustration. He has also branched out and developed, storyboarded, and directed a music video.
He was born in the city of Jakarta before eventually moving to Tangerang for his formative years. He busied himself with sports and the arts from a young age, joining sports such as figure skating and cheerleading, as well as pursuing his passion for art in many different mediums. Once graduated from secondary education, he decided to pursue a bachleors in photography at the University of The Arts London.
His works are often inspired by nature. Being a plant lover from the tropics, Thomas surrounds himself with nature, often visiting places like Kew Gardens or St. James park to gain inspiration. Coming from a photographic background, his love of nature weaves into his practice, often using plants as the main subjects of his work. His works discusses topics such as human interaction with plants, plants in human-made spaces, as well as looking into the everyday.
Thomas is also passionate about both historical fashion and fashion photography, being the main body of his client-based work. He has an eye for detail, and good sense of judgement when it comes to creative endeavors.
